Challenge
The client was developing a Lease Authoring System that offers a document-based word processing and workflow environment for the creation of leases and other legal documents. The system needed a Contract Editor that allows users to create the contracts using the standardized templates, and have the ability to insert objects, edit and format documents, create tables and images. MDT InfoTech was engaged to develop this application – The Contract Editor – in order to streamline the whole lease modification process and to substantially reduce the manual burden.
Solution
MDT InfoTech designed the tool to work over the web, providing distinct advantages over a Windows-based system. We adopted the "What you see is what you get” technology, which allows users to directly edit an HTML page content just as they edit a document in Microsoft word.
The Contract Editor allows user to load a contract template from the database and amend on it. Available operations include bold, underline, setting font, size and color of the text, cut, paste, promote, demote, indent, out-dent, backspace, delete, insert, create new nodes, editing document, repagination, editing header and footer, inserting images and objects, editing signature area, etc. MDT InfoTech implemented the mini MS Word Contract Editor using C++ and Active-X control programming based on MSHTML interface.
Benefits
• Eliminated manual lease abstraction and leveraged XML technologies
• Improved accuracy and service to contractors.
• Reduced negotiation time. Avoid time spent finding and fixing contract
abstraction errors.
• Efficiencies result in significant cost-per-contract savings. Good opportunities
for lower due diligence costs. |
